“As a partner to NMMU and many other institutions across the country in the provision of conducive living and learning environments, we are acutely aware of the increasing number of financially needy and academically deserving students who fail to secure sufficient funding to continue or commence their studies. It seems unfair and cruel that the simple lack of financial means prevents thousands of students who have qualified for tertiary studies at institutions as prestigious as NMMU despite overcoming overwhelming odds in many cases, are subjected to the continued generational cycle of unemployment and poverty.

Ours is but a small contribution to the Bursary Legacy Campaign and we have made an even smaller dent on the plight of the thousands of students in need annually. However our contribution to this campaign, as with our other CSI initiatives, is done with the belief and understanding that meaningful change to this nation starts with empowering, giving hope and opportunities to an individual.

We applaud and are inspired by both the physical challenge Prof Swartz is taking on and the cause that he is championing. We are honoured to be part of this campaign and we hope that the ascent to the peak of  Mount Fuji brings a much needed spotlight to this very important national issue and it compels individuals, corporate citizens and the nation to act.”
